Top things to do when it’s raining in the Algarve

Even though these challenging times prevent us from doing many things, we can still fully enjoy nature and open-air spaces. The Algarve is a perfect destination for everyone looking to have a great time during their holidays this year!

The region is full of beautiful restaurants and bars with terraces, whether they are placed on a cliff, on the sand or in a rustic village. We’ve gathered the best places in the Algarve where you can have a fine dinner, a delicious brunch or simply enjoy a drink with a view.

Here follow our suggestions of the best outdoor restaurants and bars in the Algarve:

  • Dining Delight in Tivoli

Dining on a terrace overlooking the sea is common in the Algarve. But having a meal on a cliff with everything you could wish for is not that usual. The Tivoli hotel has several outdoor dining experiences to enjoy during the hot summer days.

“Dining Delight” is one of the novelties. These dinners are served during the sunset on a cliff. It's a wonderful suggestion for a more romantic moment for two. The tasting menu is served with some of the best national wines by candlelight between 7 pm and 10 pm.

Besides the dining experience, you also have the option of ordering a picnic menu in the Belvedere gardens. You can choose the place where you want it to be so that the entire service can be set up for you. The menu includes snacks, cod with spinach, shrimp au gratin with cornbread, fruit salad, chocolate cake and a bottle of champagne.

  • Azur bar in Tivoli

Also facing the sea, the Azur bar serves brunches on Sundays, between noon and 3 pm, always with live music. Here you will find an excellent a la carte offer for a late breakfast: pancakes, granola and fruit bowls, but also octopus fillets with tartar sauce.

  • Bamboo, Quinta do Lago

Bamboo is an authentic Asian jungle in Almancil, on the way to the beach. The restaurant opened in 2020 and most of the tables are in open-air spaces and distanced. The recipes are Asian and most of the ingredients used are fresh, coming from organic farming in the Algarve.

  • Só Verão, Armação de Pêra

As the name says, “Só Verão” (“Just Summer” in English) is a space that only opens in the summer. Its menu relies mostly on regional food, with various grill and salad options. This season the space was refurbished but kept on having its wide terrace facing the beach, highlighting this stunning place.

  • Fuel by Chakall, Monte Gordo

Chakall's arrival in the Algarve led to the opening of the various spaces at The Prime Energize, a hotel in Monte Gordo. On the terrace of the hotel, you can find an amazing pool, as well as the famous Fuell restaurant. You can either order snacks by the pool or delight yourself with a fine dinner at the restaurant.

This space hosts various activities during the summer, such as arraials, barbecues and movie nights, all prepared and thought out in terms of safety.

  • NoSoloÁgua, Portimão

Accustomed to big parties, this will be another year in which “NoSoloÁgua” will dedicate itself to late afternoons and sunsets. The restaurant and the bar are opened until 22:30 during the summer. The pool area has several sushi options on the menu that can be ordered throughout the day. There are also oysters and various snacks, among much more regional delicacies.
